New Energy Equity is a national end-to-end solar development and finance company, having successfully completed more than 200 projects totaling more than 250 MW across the United States. We are dedicated to clean energy and the nation’s energy transformation. The VP of Land Acquisition role is responsible for market analysis, origination, siting, permitting and securing offtake of distributed generation solar projects. We are seeking an experienced individual that has a strong knowledge of the solar greenfield development cycle and has a great track record of project origination. The VP of Land Acquisition will report directly to the President.




Working with internal and external stakeholders, the VP of Land Acquisition will:

  • Analyze, identify and select new markets for early development spend throughout the United States
  • Identify viable sites for new solar project development using knowledge of siting constraints, permitting, constructability, interconnection, and energy markets
  • Work with the team to drive efficient processes to identify new potential sites leveraging the use of technology
  • Successfully deliver a pipeline of greenfield projects that are technically feasible, have stakeholder support and land control, are submitted into required interconnection processes, and secured offtake
  • Building on your base of knowledge of U.S. power markets, collaborate effectively with other internal experts to target regions in which to grow and diversify New Energy Equity’s portfolio in alignment with market opportunities and customer preferences
  • Navigate and solve real estate and land control issues
  • Coordinate with other technical, supplier facing, and operational teams to stays abreast of industry technology trends and cost saving opportunities to further advance the company’s competitive position in pursuing growth opportunities
  • Help project team identify, assess, solve challenges and drive project optimization related to: siting constraints, permitting challenges, land acquisition, stakeholder consultation, and other aspects of early stage project development
  • Be the owner of recommendations to the Executive team for spend on greenfield project opportunities
  • Ensure that appropriate project record keeping and reporting is maintained, following and helping to evolve the company’s existing project management practices, including identification and assessment of risks and ensuring the successful handoff of projects to later stage project managers
  • Develop team members, advancing their careers and making them increasingly competent and capable of originating and evaluating business opportunities
  • Contribute to the overall leadership of the development division in the areas such as strategy development, supporting corporate initiatives, people leadership and engagement


  • College degree in either a business, law or technical related field, advanced degree an asset
  • Minimum of 10 years of business experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in technical or management aspects of energy project development
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in people management (direct report or cross-functional teams)
  • Experience with GIS/mapping software an asset
  • Excellent external and internal relationship building skills with a focus on driving business results
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to effectively evaluate and solve business challenges
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting deliverables
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
